Filarmonica di Bologna
Born in 2008 by willing of the professors of the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Filarmonica has its roots in the Orchestra of the Theatre itself.
After becoming stable in 1956, but already active since the XIX century, the Orchestra dues its technical and interpretative growth to the great conductors who had been its musical or main conductors, from Sergiu Celibidache to Vladimir Delmann up to, in more recent times, Riccardo Chailly, Christian Thielemann and Daniele Gatti. Among guest conductors, Igor Stravinsky, Eugene Jochum, Claudio Abbado, Sir George Solti, Riccardo Muti and Georges Prêtre have to be remembered.
From its debut until today the Filarmonica proposes rounds of concerts of excellent artistic value at the Manzoni Auditorium Theatre in Bologna, in collaboration with the best international artists and interpreters. All concerts were sold out to acclaim soloists like Ivo Pogorelich and Philippe Entremont and conductors like Gerd Albrecht and Sir Neville Marriner. In recent years the Filarmonica collaborated with: Mikhail Pletnev, Misha Maisky, Alexander Romanovsky, Aziz Shokhakimov, Baiba Skride, Alexander Vedernikov, Daniil Trifonov.
The Filarmonica is also active in discography and has a precious collaboration with the prestigious German discographic label Deutsche Grammophone with which the Orchestra regularly records. The album “Bel Canto” has to be remembered: a series of arie d’opera interpreted by the mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča, conductor Roberto Abbado. The album, which attracted worldwide attention for its excellent quality of execution, won the prize ECHO KLASSIK 2009. The last collaboration with the German label and the famous singer was in March 2012: in the magnificent Salone Bolognini, in the San Domenico Basel complex, the new cd “Romantique” was recorded, conductor Yves Abel. This record is among the finalists of International Opera Awards too.
Always mindful towards new forms of artistic expression, the Filarmonica collaborated with Toni Servillo and Giorgio Battistelli a “SCONCERTO” Teatro di Musica, which made its debut in October, 2011 in the Arena del Sole Theatre of Bologna.
Strong of its deep ties with the city, attested by more than 3,000 supporters, the Filarmonica distinguishes itself by its firm social commitment. The beneficence concerts realized in L’Aquila, just after the earthquake which hit the town in April, 2009, the concert in favour of FANEP (Association of Families in Neurologic Pediatry) on June 2nd 2010, on the Italian Republic Anniversary Day, the San Petronio Day concert on Bologna’s saint patron day, the beneficence concert in collaboration with RAIUNO and Andrea Bocelli in the Assisi Basel should be remembered.
